New Buzz Post Static Link
One of the goals for the new blog design and layout was to bridge the gap between Google Buzz and this blog.
The Problem – My blog posts and Buzz comments lived on two different worlds:
I found it messy that I would get great comments in Google Buzz that users wouldn’t get while reading on my blog.
Example:
- I create and publish a blog post, http://www.andrewcmaxwell.com/2010/06/updating-my-blog-with-a-new-design-and-features/
- Once this blog post has been published it will automatically feed into Google Buzz – creating this URL http://www.google.com/buzz/amaxwell01/QEhMD2HHfV9/
At first this was great because I got more comments on each blog post thanks to Google Buzz, but after a while I wanted a way for readers on my blog to see what people were saying in Google Buzz about the topic.
The Solution (Part 1):
At the bottom of each blog post you will now see a new link and icon that says “Buzz Post”. This links to the static Buzz post that gets created as soon as I publish the article on my blog.
Let me know what you think, and be on the look out for the Solution – Part 2 coming soon.

Ok, I made a typo because it is late. It should read – "At first this was great because I got more comments" instead of "At first this was great because I get more comments"

Ok, so I guess being up for 21 hours has made me miss a simple step. When I created this feature I forgot to put in an if statement to not include the link if there is not link to be included yet. I guess that is my next step for later today after I get some sleep.

Yeah, I have been tinkering with it off and on for a week. Not the easiest API to use :)

There might be an argument for keeping the comments separate. One of the "time management" problems I have is reading all of the comments on a blog post (however I don't see that as a problem here on Buzz). So if I'm on your blog and I see 10 comments with a link to, let's say 20 more comments on Buzz, I'm probably not going to bother looking at your Buzz comments.
Since my blog readers are different from my Buzz readers (for the most part) I see no advantage to combining the two. Honestly, I think it makes more sense to keep them separate – for now anyway.
I'm open for being convinced otherwise though, and good luck with your experiment.

Andrew is your blog built upon wordpress? If so there's already a plugin which links your comments between buzz and the post. Unless you're doing something drastically different I wouldn't see the point of re-creating something that already exists.
